DR Congo World Cup Squad Faces 21-Day US Isolation Over Ebola Concerns

The Democratic Republic of Congo's World Cup squad must complete a 21-day isolation period before entering the United States due to the Ebola outbreak. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has banned entry for non-Americans who have been in DR Congo, Uganda, or South Sudan within the previous 21 days.

All DR Congo players currently train outside their home country, which means they avoid these restrictions. The team's training camp has been cancelled, creating logistical challenges ahead of their World Cup opener against Portugal on June 17 in the tournament running June 11 to July 19.

The World Health Organization recently elevated the regional Ebola risk from "high" to "very high." WHO director-general Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus noted the broader African risk remains "high" while global risk stays "low."

DR Congo will play friendlies against Denmark in Belgium on June 3 and Chile in Spain on June 9 before the World Cup begins. These isolation protocols could disrupt team preparation during their final buildup to the tournament.
