AC Milan fire Allegri after Champions League miss

AC Milan severed ties with head coach Massimiliano Allegri after a season that fell short of Champions League qualification. The Rossoneri dropped from third to fifth in Serie A following a 2‑1 loss to Cagliari on the final day, ending a run of top‑four finishes and leaving the club in the Europa League next season.

Red Bird Capital, the American investment group that took over Milan in 2022, declared the campaign an “unequivocal failure.” They cited an inconsistent final stretch, noting that the 2‑1 defeat turned a credible title challenge into a missed Champions League spot for the second straight year. The club will now regroup for the coming season.

Alongside Allegri, chief executive Giorgio Furlani, sporting director Igli Tare and technical director Geoffrey Moncada exited, signalling a comprehensive reorganisation of football operations. Allegri, 58, returned for a second spell in May after replacing Sergio Conceição, but he lost seven of the final 13 matches. Inter Milan clinched the Scudetto, leaving Milan to aim for European redemption.

With Inter, Napoli, Roma and Como set to represent Italy in the Champions League, Milan will compete in the Europa League alongside Juventus. The decision underscores the club’s ambition to rebuild after a decade of instability. Fans now face a new era, as Milan seeks to reclaim domestic glory and secure a place among Europe’s elite.
