Red Bull disputes FIA ADUO ranking over Mercedes power gap claims

Red Bull-Ford has formally challenged the FIA's initial Additional Development and Upgrade Opportunities (ADUO) verdict, demanding additional data verification before accepting their top ranking ahead of Mercedes. Team principal Laurent Mekies confirmed the request centers on ensuring sensor accuracy and data point validity rather than questioning the measurement methodology itself. All manufacturers agreed to simplified ICE-only assessments during 2025 spring discussions.

The ADUO system ranks manufacturers based solely on internal combustion engine performance, determining upgrade token allocation. Red Bull received one token while Mercedes got one and Ferrari, Audi and Honda received two each. However, Mekies argues the data doesn't support their supposed advantage, citing qualifying performances that contradict the rankings. The team's on-track results show inconsistency with the claimed power superiority.

Red Bull points to specific race data: sixth-place qualifying in Canada's high ICE sensitivity circuit, just 0.04 seconds from pole in Monaco's low sensitivity track, then sixth again in Barcelona. These variations align with ICE power sensitivity differences rather than consistent dominance. Mekies emphasized they cannot identify any data sample indicating superiority over Mercedes.

If unchanged, the verdict could trap Red Bull strategically. Mercedes might delay using their token until after future assessments or apply it to electrical components, potentially maintaining Red Bull's vulnerable top position. Mekies stressed extreme certainty is essential when assessing ICE pecking order before making decisions that could significantly impact the championship battle. Mercedes has publicly backed the FIA's original assessment.
