Toto Wolff admitted Mercedes has the strongest Formula 1 power unit, a claim Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies agreed with after the Belgian GP. Wolff made the admission while discussing George Russell's straightline speed issues that led to contact with Lewis Hamilton and retirement at Spa. "We have the most powerful power unit," Wolff told Sky Sports F1.

The admission reignites debate around the ADUO (Engine Performance Equalisation) system. The first ADUO period placed Red Bull-Ford Powertrains as benchmark, with Mercedes trailing by 2-4%, entitling Red Bull to one additional upgrade this year and next. Ferrari, Audi and Honda were over 4% behind, allowing two upgrades per season.

The second ADUO period, running from Monaco GP to Hungarian GP next week, could change the hierarchy. Results from the first period remain unpublished amid Red Bull's review.
