Alpine Appeals Monaco Penalties After Lost Podium

Pierre Gasly crossed the line in third place at Monaco, only to fall to seventh after the stewards added 10 seconds for two pit‑lane speed infringements. Alpine lodged a formal right of review with the FIA, insisting the car’s limiter stayed below the 60 kph limit and that the penalties unfairly stripped a podium.

Other drivers, including Lewis Hamilton, Oscar Piastri and George Russell, also received speed‑limit penalties, but Hamilton served his under a late safety‑car period and kept second. The FIA calculates average speed via track‑embedded loops, a method that can flag marginal excesses, especially around the newly reconfigured pit exit.

Alpine now faces a high bar: it must present a “significant and relevant new element” not available to the original stewards. Given the FIA warned teams pre‑race about the pit‑lane configuration, the likelihood of overturning the decision appears slim, leaving Gasly’s podium hopes dashed.
