Mercedes Files Review After Gasly Podium Restored

Mercedes lodged a formal request for a right of review after Alpine’s appeal saw Pierre Gasly reinstated to third place in Monaco. Five drivers received five‑second penalties for pit‑lane speeding, but Gasly’s penalties were overturned when stewards accepted evidence that the pit‑lane distance was wrong. The reversal moved Gasly from seventh back to the podium.

The appeal also reshuffled the top five. George Russell fell from a podium‑contending position to twelfth after a drive‑through penalty, while McLaren’s Oscar Piastri and Red Bull’s Isack Hadjar were demoted to fourth and fifth. Mercedes believes the new evidence could alter the race classification, though team principal Toto Wolff calls the move a long shot.

Both Mercedes and Red Bull have signaled intentions to appeal Gasly’s reinstatement, citing inconsistent penalty application. The controversy highlights the need for clear race‑time adjudication and may influence how teams approach future pit‑lane infractions.
