Gasly protests Monaco podium loss after pitlane penalties

Pierre Gasly left Monaco feeling cheated after two five-second penalties dropped him from third to seventh. The Alpine driver surged from ninth on the grid, overtook Lando Norris at the start and passed Isack Hadjar on the final restart to cross the line in podium position. The penalties, for exceeding the 60 km/h limit by 0.1 km/h and 0.4 km/h, erased his result.

Gasly protested, insisting his speed limiter was engaged well before the pitlane entry and that the car’s telemetry showed compliance. He joined other penalised drivers—including George Russell, Oscar Piastri and Lewis Hamilton—fueling speculation that the line cars used to enter the pitlane may have triggered the infractions. Alpine announced it will request a right‑to‑review the pitlane speeding penalties officially.

The controversy threatens Alpine’s points haul and Gasly’s long‑awaited podium, his fifth in Formula 1 after a decade of effort. With the FIA’s data review pending, the Frenchman hopes the decision will restore his standing but acknowledges the celebration cannot be recreated. The outcome will affect driver morale and the constructor battle as the season heads into its next phase for the championship.
