Kai Pereira designed zero-power hackathon badges for the Overglade game jam in Singapore. The RP2040-based badges feature passive NFC and e-ink displays, requiring no battery for core functionality. Pereira created these as ticket-shaped PCBs for HackClub's event where high schoolers from around the world competed after spending 70 hours designing games.

The badges include 20 GPIOs broken out to header pins for programming, with cool exposed copper art. Pereira manufactured approximately 100 badges for about $5 per board plus $5 for e-ink components. The design process taught valuable lessons about manufacturing extras, considering 3D PCB placement, and maintaining a clear vision for the final product.

The badges successfully integrated into the "game within a game" theme of Overglade. Participants could use the NFC tags to share their websites or GitHub profiles. Pereira documented the full design process in a journal on the repository, inviting questions and feedback from the maker community.
