Saw Karpathy's HackerTube and wanted the same for books. A new site, HackerBooks, launched with ~16.5k books that at least two different Hacker News commenters mentioned between 2007 and now. Each entry links directly to the original HN comments that referenced the title. The creator used Claude Opus 5.5 to build the data pipeline and the entire site, though they primarily steered the project and purchased the domain. Mentions are counted regardless of sentiment, meaning both praise and criticism factor into the rankings. The database is downloadable via the site's about page. If a favorite book is missing or incorrectly matched, users are encouraged to leave feedback in the comments.
