The 3GPP has concluded work on its second 5G-Advanced release, Release 19, with fully implementable specifications due by the end of December 2025. This release successfully balances continuity with innovation, consolidating previous advancements while preparing for future developments.

Release-19 work focused on 5G-Advanced, addressing immediate commercial needs of deployed 5G networks. Concurrently, Release 20 will continue this focus throughout 2026 and will also initiate the first 6G studies. These studies will cover requirements, system architecture, security, and radio evolution to meet anticipated future use cases.

The "Release description; Release 19" report (TR 21.919) will be published upon completion, with draft versions available beforehand. The official 5G-Advanced logo, first adopted in Rel-18, will continue to be used on Rel-19 deliverables, aiding industry clarity regarding specific 3GPP system capabilities.
