The next generation of wireless technology is on the horizon, with 6G promising transformative experiences beyond what 5G currently offers. Industry leaders showcased their visions at MWC 2026, revealing how this technology will power AI, extended reality, and public infrastructure innovations. While 5G is still rolling out nationwide, 6G development is already underway with commercial deployment expected by the late 2020s.

Artificial intelligence will be a primary driver for 6G adoption, as global WAN traffic is projected to increase three to seven times by 2034. AI is expected to account for roughly 30% of all network traffic, requiring faster connections and lower latency. Industry experts envision AI agents orchestrating entire mobile ecosystems, connecting phones, wearables, and other devices seamlessly. To support this, 6G will offer five times greater traffic capacity than 5G and 50% higher spectral efficiency.

Extended reality and spatial computing will also benefit significantly from 6G's capabilities. Current XR devices like Meta Ray-Ban Display and Samsung Galaxy XR are limited by data transfer speeds, but 6G will enable multiple 4K or 8K video streams simultaneously. This improvement will make game streaming, remote desktop control, and smart glasses experiences nearly instantaneous. Additionally, 6G will power public infrastructure advancements including self-driving car networks and robotics, with its capacity upgrades addressing the congestion expected from these emerging technologies.
