MLB Labor Dispute Drives Record Braves Short Interest

Short sellers are rapidly upping their bets against shares of the Atlanta Braves as contentious labor negotiations between Major League Baseball and its players union raise the prospects of a disruption to the 2027 season.

Short interest, a proxy for bearish sentiment, in the Braves' class C stock has tripled over the last 12 months to as high as 6.8% of shares that are available to be traded, according to data from S3 Partners.

That's the highest level since Atlanta Braves Holdings, Inc. was split off from Liberty Media Corp. in 2023 and creates a roughly $170 million bet against the team's stock.
