James Rodríguez announced his retirement from Colombia's national team on Tuesday after 15 years. "Today, I want to talk to you from the heart," James posted on social media. "After many years, many games and joys, and difficult moments, it's time to close one of the most important chapters in my life: my journey with the Colombian national team."

James, 35, debuted in October 2011 against Bolivia, scoring the game-winner. He played in three World Cups (2014, 2018, 2026) and won the 2014 Golden Boot with six goals in five games, including a memorable volley against Uruguay that led to his signing with Real Madrid.

"Wearing this shirt was a dream, but also a huge responsibility," James added. "I had the honor of wearing the No. 10 shirt and also the captain's armband." He made his final appearance on July 7 in a round-of-16 loss to Switzerland on penalties at the 2026 World Cup.

James concludes with 31 goals and 43 assists in 131 games, tied with Carlos Valderrama and Freddy Rincón for most tournament appearances by a Colombian. He captained Colombia to the 2024 Copa América final. "I'm leaving calmly because I gave everything," said James, who recently signed with Atletico Nacional.
