CD Projekt Red wants The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered, launching September 29 as a free update, to feel like a game built in 2026, not a decade-old title with a fresh coat of paint. Executive producer Jakub Kutrzuba told PC Gamer the overhaul goes beyond the 2022 next-gen update, reworking everything possible without rebuilding from scratch. Changes include animation, gameplay, and quality-of-life improvements.

Kutrzuba said the goal is to make it comparable with any modern game launch, noting it's easy to get used to the improvements and hard to go back. The remaster raises minimum PC requirements significantly. It was first announced at Gamescom alongside a teaser for the Songs of the Past expansion and will be free for all existing owners of the Complete Edition.
