Andy Nguyen, developer behind the PS5 Linux project released earlier in 2026, has announced he is stepping away from the PS5 modding scene, halting work on PS5 Pro Linux support planned for 2027.

In a message on X, Nguyen said his work is "all down the sink," blaming changes in the modding community driven by LLM coding assistants. He described the scene as "just a bunch of noobs using LLMs and writing hacks they don't even understand."

Nguyen revealed that "slop kiddies" found the last remaining Hypervisor bug in the PlayStation 5 Pro and reported it to Sony via the company's bug bounty program. He had hoped the exploit would remain unpatched until after the release of Grand Theft Auto VI, allowing users to both play the game and run Linux on cracked consoles. He asked those who found the bug to wait for GTA 6's release, but they reported it within a day.

The PS5 Linux Loader project remains published on GitHub under a GPL 3.0 license, allowing others to clone and continue the work, though the in-progress PS5 Pro support appears not to be included in the repository.
