With Trump’s executive order blocking mail voting restrictions, election officials across the country are shifting focus to restoring voter confidence. The Supreme Court’s decision settles the legal question, allowing states to move forward with normal absentee ballot operations. President Trump’s repeated false attacks on mail voting have left many voters baffled and doubtful.

Nevada’s Secretary of State Francisco Aguilar emphasized the need for voter education programs, including television and digital ads, to build confidence that ballots will be counted. Colorado’s Secretary of State Jena Griswold reiterated that returning ballots by mail is safe, pointing to their tracking program similar to Amazon package tracking. In North Carolina, roughly 300,000 ballots had already been sent out for absentee voting ahead of the midterms.

State officials there describe the situation as “full steam ahead,” noting the ruling does not change existing procedures. Arizona’s Secretary of State Adrian Fontes expressed relief, stating that even election denialists vote by mail in his state. His office had already prepared public service announcements to maintain trust.

Officials remain resolute that the legal battle will not impact the upcoming election administration at the local level.
