Speaking after a media session in Madrid, Alonso reiterated that news about his future will come “not soon,” emphasizing that the key factor is whether Formula 1 will be more enjoyable to drive under the new regulations. He criticized the current generation of cars for rewarding energy conservation over driver input, describing high-speed corners at Silverstone and Spa as “charging stations” where drivers must slow down to recharge batteries rather than push limits.

Alonso acknowledged that the planned 2027 shift toward a 58-42 internal combustion to electrical power split is a “step in the right direction,” but expressed hope that further tweaks will be made before the season starts. He stressed that his decision will depend on whether the rules put the driver back at the center of performance, not just on Aston Martin’s competitiveness. Alonso clarified that he hopes for adjustments prior to 2027, not during the season, and remains open to continuing in a different role if it benefits the team most.
