Amazon Alexa Tablets

Amazon has launched a new lineup of Alexa tablets, and the most notable change is that they run Android and gain full Google Play access, a clear break from the proprietary Fire OS that has defined the company's tablets for years. Amazon says the devices also serve as a sanctuary for Kindle readers, and the rollout includes a 12-inch model with an anti-glare screen. The flagship Alexa Tablet 12 Pro is positioned as an iPad Pro rival that starts at about $500, and a comparison with the Fire HD 10 weighs whether the upgrade justifies the cost. Amazon's Panos Panay has teased additional Alexa-branded devices and a new design language, with more details promised later this month. Kids' versions are also coming, offered in two sizes with cases and subscriptions.

Apple

Apple is expected to show off new smart home devices at an event scheduled for October 13 at 9AM ET. On the hardware side, a new rumor suggests the iPhone Air 2 could be about 5.2mm thin while delivering better battery life than its predecessor, with a launch expected next spring. Reports also indicate that the OLED MacBook Pro may not be much thinner than the current model, despite its long-anticipated OLED display.

Gaming and Entertainment

Xbox has launched a new division, XP, focused on TV and film adaptations of its biggest franchises. Meanwhile, a GTA 6 leak has surfaced with major story spoilers, prompting a warning for readers to be careful before watching. Razer released the Basilisk V4 Pro gaming mouse, featuring a new tilt wheel and up to 275 hours of battery life. The Atari 800XL has also returned as a hybrid gaming console that connects via HDMI and includes 25 built-in games.

Connectivity and Apps

American Airlines will bring Starlink Wi-Fi to its entire mainline fleet in 2027, more than double the number of aircraft the company previously quoted. WhatsApp is testing a dedicated Contacts tab in its Android beta app.

A new MacBook Pro leak suggests the redesigned model is coming soon and could benefit professional users. Apple is also expected to release an OLED iPad mini later this year, though a sketchy rumor claims it will lack 120Hz refresh support.
