Apple's Phil Schiller is scaling back his role, no longer running the App Store or overseeing product events. The 66-year-old executive, who joined Apple in 1987 and returned in 1997 under Steve Jobs, is narrowing responsibilities while remaining with the company. Employees indicate Schiller is taking a step toward retirement to focus on personal projects, having previously worked close to 80 hours a week as Apple Fellow.

Schiller, a key figure behind the iPod, iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch, plans to remain at Apple with his Fellow title. This transition coincides with John Ternus taking over as CEO and Tim Cook stepping down to become Chairman. Apple is moving the App Store to Eddy Cue, who previously oversaw it until 2015, with Carson Oliver managing day-to-day operations.

Schiller deputy Nola Weinstein will lead the Apple events team. This marks a significant leadership shift as Apple enters a new phase under Ternus.
