YMTC PC550 debuts as its first client PCIe 5.0 NVMe SSD, aiming to ease storage shortages for PC makers. The M.2 2242/2280 modules use YMTC's X4-9070 3D NAND on Xtacking 4.0, featuring a four-channel architecture that YMTC claims lowers power and heat versus typical eight-channel designs. Capacities start at 512GB, scaling to 2TB, with sequential speeds up to 10,500 MB/s read and 10,000 MB/s write, placing it between Gen 4 and top Gen 5 drives.

Random performance scales with capacity, hitting 880K/1.1M IOPS for 512GB and 1.3M/1.3M for larger models, backed by 300/600/1200 TBW endurance. Idle power under 3mW and active under 6W suits notebooks. Industry giants like ASUS, Acer, Dell, and HP are already sourcing Chinese memory and storage to counter shortages, viewing YMTC's chips as viable alternatives to Korean suppliers.

Apple is also reportedly considering YMTC storage. This launch signals YMTC's push into the competitive client SSD market.
