Valve rolled out the SteamOS 3.8.6 beta, layering typical bug fixes with notable hardware expansions. The update brings preliminary HDMI VRR support for devices that output native HDMI 2.1, a step forward in AMD’s push to enable full HDMI 2.1 on Linux. Frame‑pacing tweaks improve smoothness, while TCL televisions now link more reliably through the Steam Deck Dock, potentially cutting input lag.

Beyond display upgrades, SteamOS 3.8.6 adds controller compatibility for a slew of handhelds, including the MSI Claw A1M, 7 AI+ A2VM, 8 AI+ A2VM, A8 BZ2EM, and OneXPlayer Apex and X1 lines. AccelGyro3D support improves for the original Lenovo Legion Go and MSI Claw, while graphics driver revisions unlock features required by titles such as Crimson Desert. The broader support eases the fragmented handheld market.

Audio receives a bump too: HDMI output now carries cleaner sound, and multiple bug fixes tighten overall stability. Valve also restores Bluetooth Wake for the Deck’s LCD and adds wake‑from‑sleep for paired Steam Controllers, polishing the handheld’s power‑management workflow. Users reporting smoother transitions between docked and handheld modes. These refinements push the Steam Deck ecosystem closer to a console‑grade experience on Linux.
