Steam Deck OLED Stock Vanishes in Key Markets Amid Memory Crisis

Valve's Steam Deck OLED handheld has suddenly gone out of stock in North America, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, and Hong Kong, sparking speculation about component shortages. The popular portable gaming PC, which launched almost three years ago, now only offers its 512 GB and 1 TB OLED configurations after Valve discontinued the 256 GB LCD model last December.

The shortage comes amid an ongoing computer memory and storage crisis that has caused price fluctuations throughout late 2025 and early 2026. The affected OLED models utilize 16 GB of unified LPDDR5-6500 RAM paired with either 512 GB or 1 TB NVMe SSDs. While UK and Australia customers still report plentiful supply, several key markets face sudden availability issues.

Valve has not commented on the situation, leaving the community to speculate about potential component shipment delays. The timing is particularly notable as Valve recently unveiled new Steam products including the Steam Machine, though the Bellevue, Washington-based company remains silent about its launch pricing. With memory shortages expected to persist for 18-24 months, some enthusiasts fear price hikes for the Steam Deck OLED could push the cost of ownership above $1000 for Valve's mini PC ambitions.
