Samsung and SK hynix are committing approximately $870 billion over the next decade to significantly expand their semiconductor manufacturing capabilities in South Korea. This massive investment targets memory, storage, and logic chips, aiming to solidify the nation's global leadership in these critical technology sectors. The plan includes not just new fabrication plants but also supporting infrastructure.

This multi-year initiative goes beyond raw wafer output, encompassing AI data centers, battery production, and advanced chip-making tools. SK hynix will focus on DRAM and NAND Flash, while Samsung will extend its efforts to its LSI logic division. Both companies are acquiring advanced EUV machinery, with SK hynix planning 20 Low-NA and two High-NA EUV machines by 2027.

South Korea's government has set initial goals to double DRAM production capacity within five years and substantially boost NAND Flash output. By the end of the decade, the companies expect to add four to five new semiconductor plants each. This strategic move signals a robust commitment to domestic production and technological advancement in the memory market.
