PowerToys 0.99 Adds Linux‑Style Controls and a New Dock to Windows 11

Microsoft's PowerToys rolled out version PowerToys 0.99 in April, adding a host of Linux‑style controls, a new dock, and a compact Command Palette. Users can now manipulate windows more fluidly and manage external displays from the taskbar.

Grab and Move lets users hold Alt and left‑click to drag any window, bypassing the title bar. Alt‑right‑click resizes from the nearest edge. This mirrors KDE Plasma and Gnome behavior, where the Windows key serves as the modifier, streamlining multitasking for office and creative workflows today.

Power Display introduces a taskbar fly‑out that controls external screens—source, power state, brightness, and contrast. Users can save custom profiles and switch them with a single click. Minor tweaks to the keyboard layout editor allow selecting non‑existent keys for shortcuts, enhancing accessibility for non‑standard keyboards for IT administrators.

Command Palette now supports a compact dock, persistent calculator history, and customizable pinning rules. Users can keep the dock above all windows or choose where apps appear. These refinements reduce friction for power users, consolidating window management, display control, and quick access into a single, cohesive toolkit, making Windows a more competitive desktop OS.
