PlayStation Trims Horizon Hunters After Negative Feedback

PlayStation, which has recently pledged to double down on live‑service games, is now reacting to growing negative player sentiment about the genre.

Bloomberg reports that PlayStation and Guerilla Games are overhauling Horizon Hunters Gather, a live‑service co‑op game announced in February 2026. Insiders say the studio has been stripping live‑service elements since June 2026, moving toward a more traditional co‑op experience.

The revised title will feature a reduced scope and a story mode, and insiders say the project teetered on cancellation. Executives reportedly told staff in a recent meeting that the team had until December to deliver the next milestone.

This move follows Sony’s history of live‑service missteps, including the cancelled God of War MMO and the decision to drop live development for Destiny 2, despite its continued popularity.
