Sony Retools Horizon Hunters Gathering Game

Sony Interactive Entertainment's upcoming multiplayer title Horizon Hunters Gathering is reportedly undergoing major changes. Developer Guerrilla Games is said to be reducing the game's scope, removing live-service elements, and adding a story mode to transform it into a more traditional co-op experience.

According to Bloomberg, these changes follow poor feedback from closed playtests conducted earlier this year. Rather than canceling the project entirely, Guerrilla has reportedly been given until the end of the year to impress executives with their next milestone.

Many developers working on the game are being reassigned to other projects, including a new Horizon mainline title. The sequel to Horizon Forbidden West remains "years away from completion." A separate multiplayer Horizon MMO called Horizon Steel Frontiers is being developed externally by NCSoft.

This restructuring represents another setback for Sony's live-service strategy, which has seen multiple cancellations and underperforming titles beyond Helldivers 2.
