Other World Computing unveiled the OWC Stack AI, the first Thunderbolt 5 accelerator designed specifically for running AI models locally on Windows and Linux PCs. The device addresses growing demand for on-premises AI processing without expensive cloud subscriptions or hardware upgrades. It expands effective AI memory beyond onboard GPU limitations.

Many organizations face a dilemma: pay escalating cloud fees for AI services or struggle with inadequate local hardware. Larry O'Connor, OWC's CEO, noted that existing systems often cannot handle larger AI models, forcing businesses into costly compromises. The Stack AI solves this by providing expandable working memory through high-speed flash storage.

Key benefits include eliminating recurring cloud costs, keeping sensitive data on-premises, and achieving faster response times without GPU bottlenecks. The portable unit works across Thunderbolt 5 systems and supports major AI applications like OpenClaw. Teams can share the device between workstations or take it on the road.

OWC Stack AI debuts at COMPUTEX TAIPEI before shipping later this year, positioning itself as a practical bridge between current hardware and demanding AI workloads.
