Orange Pi Neo Gaming Handheld Delayed by RAM Crisis

The Orange Pi Neo gaming handheld faces an indefinite delay due to skyrocketing DDR5 memory and storage prices. Originally announced in 2024 with plans for a 2026 launch, the Linux-powered device was set to feature AMD Ryzen 7 7840U or 8840U processors paired with 16GB or 32GB of RAM.

Priced between $450-550, the handheld offered impressive specs including a 1080p 120Hz display, dual trackpads, and dual USB4 ports. However, the ongoing DRAM shortage has pushed component costs to unsustainable levels. The developer announced on the Manjaro forum that the project is "currently on ice" while waiting for market conditions to improve.

While the delay frustrates potential buyers, it makes financial sense given the current component pricing crisis. The developer confirmed that FCC and CE certifications are complete and that Manjaro Gaming Edition has seen significant improvements during development. However, pushing back the launch too far could force hardware revisions to stay competitive in the rapidly evolving handheld gaming market.
