Ayaneo halts Snapdragon 8 Elite console amid semiconductor crisis

Ayaneo has discontinued its Konkr Pocket FIT 8Elite handheld console, citing unsustainable production costs driven by semiconductor shortages. The Android-powered device, which features a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and 6-inch 144Hz display, will see its final production batch after current stock sells out. The company's Indiegogo announcement revealed that storage component prices have skyrocketed to several times their pre-holiday levels.

This isn't an isolated incident. Ayaneo's Windows-based NEXT 2, powered by the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 with a 9.06-inch OLED display, has also suspended pre-orders after costs doubled beyond the $2,000 price point. The semiconductor crisis has forced price increases across the industry, with Intel raising CPU prices by up to 10% and AMD following with increases up to 15%.

Other gaming hardware companies face similar challenges. Valve's Steam Deck inventory has dwindled, while Steam Machine and Steam Frame VR launches face indefinite delays. These developments signal a broader industry reckoning as component shortages and price inflation make current product pricing models unsustainable. The handheld gaming market, once booming with innovation, now grapples with the harsh economics of chip scarcity.
