MSI Afterburner Adds V/F Heat Map for GPU Voltage Curves

MSI Afterburner is testing a new voltage/frequency (V/F) curve editor that adds a heat‑map visualizer. When users press "M" in the editor, the beta records the GPU's V/F points and displays them with yellow gradients indicating the most frequently hit spots. The tool lets enthusiasts watch the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 boost algorithm in real time and see how the GPU shifts between voltage levels as frequency changes.

Developer "Unwinder" explains that the upcoming beta also showcases improvements introduced with NVIDIA's Blackwell architecture, where dynamic voltage‑frequency scaling (DVFS) makes V/F transitions up to 1,000 times faster and far more gradual than on older chips. In contrast, the Ada Lovelace‑based GeForce RTX 4090 still follows a more abrupt boost pattern. The heat‑map thus highlights the differences between these generations.

TechPowerUp’s own visualization software is used in the accompanying screenshots, providing a side‑by‑side comparison of the two GPUs' boosting behavior. The feature is expected in the next beta release of MSI Afterburner, offering deeper insight for overclockers and performance analysts.
