Intel Skips AMD Strix Halo, Focuses on Integrated GPUs

Intel’s senior engineer Tom Petersen told Club386 that the company will not chase AMD’s high‑power Strix Halo APUs. Instead, Intel will focus on integrated graphics for gaming, leaving the high‑performance segment to third‑party discrete GPUs. The Arc B390 iGPU still trails AMD’s Radeon 8060S in most tests today.

Petersen explained that AMD’s current Strix Halo units lack power efficiency, and Intel’s own Arc B580 remains the most powerful gaming GPU, outperforming the 8060S in certain workloads. Intel plans to release the Arc Pro B70 with 32 GB VRAM later this year, targeting workstation users for high performance.

The decision signals Intel’s strategy to avoid direct competition with AMD’s high‑end APUs, which are designed for massive frame buffers and AI workloads. By steering consumers toward discrete GPUs, Intel can focus on improving its integrated solutions without cannibalizing its own discrete GPU roadmap in the future market.

Consumers looking for gaming performance should still consider Intel’s Arc Pro B70 or third‑party GPUs, while those prioritizing integrated power will find the upcoming Core Ultra X9 388H promising. Industry watchers will monitor how Intel balances its discrete and integrated lines as the next generation of CPUs rolls out.
