Framework Raises RAM Prices Amid DRAM Crisis

TechPowerUp News •

Framework has increased RAM prices for its laptops and desktops due to the ongoing DRAM shortage, with DDR5 SODIMM prices now ranging from $13-18 per GB. The company maintains transparent monthly updates on its blog, tracking industry conditions and their impact on pricing. Framework's March update shows that lower-capacity memory modules are trending toward the higher end of the price range.

These price increases affect both standalone RAM sales and pre-built SKUs of the Framework Laptop 16 and Framework Desktop. The company has also begun depleting its stockpile of low-cost SSDs, which were previously priced below market averages. Framework still has inventory of 2, 4, and 8 TB SN850X SSDs at discounted rates, but warns that prices for the Laptop 12, 13, and 16 will continue rising in the coming months.

The DRAM crisis has created ripple effects throughout the supply chain, with Framework confirming limited availability of the Intel Core i5-1334U processor used in the Framework 12. As silicon fabrication faces ongoing challenges, consumers can expect continued price pressure on both memory and storage components across the industry.
