Framework DDR5 Memory Price Jumps to $12-16 per GB Amid Supply Crunch

Framework is raising DDR5 memory prices across its Laptop 12/13/16 lineup, with costs now ranging from $12-16 per GB depending on kit configuration. The modular PC maker attributes the increase to supplier-driven price hikes of 20-60% over the past two months, affecting both SODIMM and soldered LPDDR5X modules in its systems.

In late December 2025, Framework charged approximately $10 per GB for standard DDR5 modules, but suppliers have since implemented steep increases. The latest pricing means customers will pay $192-256 for 16GB kits and up to $400 for 32GB configurations. Even Framework's desktop systems and mainboards face 6-16% price increases due to rising LPDDR5X costs, which the company says will likely continue climbing over the next few months.

This marks Framework's second major memory price hike in three months, reflecting broader industry trends as DRAM shortages persist. While desktop DDR5 modules remain available around $10-11 per GB on retail channels, SODIMM pricing appears significantly higher. The company emphasizes it's only passing through supplier increases rather than marking up prices, though the rapid escalation underscores ongoing memory supply constraints affecting both consumer and commercial hardware markets.
