Framework Laptop 13 Pro Pre-Orders Affected by RAM Price Hike

Framework has adjusted pre-order configurations for its Laptop 13 Pro due to an unexpected 100%+ price increase in LPCAMM2 memory modules. This surge in costs "goes far beyond anything we had predicted and anything we're able to absorb without placing our ability to operate at real financial risk," according to the company.

Despite an earlier promise from CEO Nirav Patel to honor existing pre-order pricing, some customers have reported their configurations being changed. Framework states they have enough LPCAMM2 modules for existing pre-orders but lack the specific mix of 64 GB, 32 GB, and 16 GB configurations. Consequently, orders beyond a certain batch (Batch 4 for laptops, Batch 7 for mainboards) with 64 GB will be downgraded to 32 GB at the original 32 GB price. Similarly, 32 GB configurations may be reduced to 16 GB at the original 16 GB price.

Framework is absorbing some of the cost for new orders by pricing LPCAMM2 modules below the new sourcing cost, though they anticipate further price increases for new orders as existing lower-cost inventory is depleted. The company also noted upcoming price adjustments for new orders reflecting increases in Core Ultra Series 3 processor pricing, Windows licenses, and other component costs.
