Chinese RAM Makers Switch to Domestic CXMT DDR5 Chips in 48GB Kits

Chinese memory manufacturers Gloway and KingBank are integrating domestically produced CXMT DDR5 modules into their RAM kits, marking a shift away from imports from Micron, SK hynix, and Samsung. These 24 Gb DDR5 modules power 48 GB memory kits using eight 3 GB chips per DIMM, delivering substantial capacity for modern computing builds.

The Gloway Longwuyi Yi Special Edition targets AMD platforms with 6,000 MT/s speeds and CL36-38-38-80 timings at 1.2V. Custom heat spreaders and 5 W/mK thermal pads manage heat dissipation. KingBank counters with 2 mm heat spreaders, PMIC thermal interface material, and software-controlled RGB lighting on both sides of the DIMMs.

CXMT's progress traces back to earlier 16 Gb DDR5 chips running at 8,000 MT/s with 0.239 Gb/mm² density. Their G4 cells shrink roughly 20% compared to the previous G3 generation, following transitions from 23 nm to 18 nm processes. Mass production of 24 Gb modules currently tops out around 6,000 MT/s, suggesting higher speeds require additional tuning.

This represents a significant step toward China's semiconductor independence goals, potentially reshaping supply chains and offering consumers alternatives to established brands.
