CD Projekt Red Overhauls Docs to Prevent Future Launch Flubs

CD Projekt Red’s technical leads Jarosław Ruciński and Adrian Fulneczek told a Digital Dragons panel that the studio has rewritten its development workflow after the troubled launch of Cyberpunk 2077. The post‑mortem pinpointed fragmented documentation as the root cause, with the team having produced 8,000 pages in Confluence before a cloud migration scattered the data.

Moving forward, every code change now requires a vetted document before crossing a development gate. The new system lives in a shared knowledge base accessible to all internal teams and external partners, eliminating siloed information and reducing duplicate effort. By embedding documentation into the pipeline, CDPR hopes breakthroughs in one project will instantly benefit another.

The changes are already shaping upcoming titles. While neither Cyberpunk 2 nor The Witcher 4 carries a firm release date, the studio expects the sequel to arrive around 2030, and The Witcher 4 has cleared pre‑production. With a unified documentation culture, CDPR aims to deliver smoother launches and restore player confidence in its flagship franchises.
