Early benchmark results for AMD's new Ryzen AI Max+ 392 processor show impressive performance. Tested in an ASUS TUF Gaming A14 laptop with 64GB of LPDDR5X memory, the chip scored 18,071 in Geekbench 6's multicore test. This result slightly surpasses the desktop Ryzen 9 7900X, suggesting AMD's mobile silicon can compete with its own desktop offerings.

The chip is part of AMD's Strix Halo family, designed for more accessible gaming laptops. It features a 12-core/24-thread CPU, a powerful 40-CU Radeon 8060S integrated GPU, and a 50 TOPS NPU. With a configurable TDP from 45W to 120W, it aims to deliver strong CPU and graphics performance in a single package.

Laptops using this chip are expected to hit retail in the first half of the year. AMD is also preparing a more affordable 8-core variant, the Ryzen AI Max+ 388. These releases signal a push to bring high-end mobile gaming performance to thinner, more efficient laptops, challenging both Intel's mobile offerings and AMD's own desktop line.
