AI Server Shipments to Jump 28% in 2026

Global AI server shipments are forecasted to surge over 28% year-over-year in 2026, driven by North American cloud providers investing heavily in AI infrastructure. TrendForce attributes this to growing demand for both specialized GPU-powered servers and general-purpose systems handling inference workloads.

The market shift began in late 2025 as companies like Microsoft, Google, and Meta prioritized monetizing AI through inference services. These workloads now run on traditional servers alongside dedicated racks, fueling broader server demand and a projected 12.8% growth in total shipments.

ASIC-based systems are gaining ground, expected to make up 27.8% of shipments by 2026. Google's in-house TPUs lead this charge, with increasing adoption outside its own platforms. NVIDIA's GPU-based servers still dominate, but competition from custom silicon is intensifying across cloud and edge computing sectors.

Industry analysts expect power consumption and supply chain constraints to become major bottlenecks. As data centers expand, sustainability and energy efficiency may shape future procurement decisions more than raw performance metrics.
