VMware CSP Program Termination Sparks EU Antitrust Battle

Cloud infrastructure providers have filed an antitrust complaint against Broadcom over its decision to terminate the VMware Cloud Service Provider program in Europe. The move, set for January 2026, removes most European CSPs from selling VMware products while keeping only a handful of hand-selected partners. CISPE claims this represents a clear abuse of market power following Broadcom's VMware acquisition.

In their complaint, CISPE accuses Broadcom of implementing sharp price increases - up to tenfold with some customers reporting 900 percent hikes - along with aggressive bundling and commitment requirements based on projected rather than actual usage. The organization's Secretary General Francisco Mingorance described the pricing strategy as a "coup de grâce" after initial price hikes, demanding urgent regulatory intervention to force policy changes.

Broadcom rejected the allegations, characterizing CISPE as an organization funded by hyperscalers that misrepresents market realities. The chipmaker maintains its commitment to European VMware Cloud Service Provider partners and claims to be helping them offer alternatives to major cloud providers. CISPE currently represents 50 members and has previously challenged the European Commission's approval of Broadcom's VMware acquisition through legal appeal.
