Ruf, a German automaker that has transitioned from Porsche tuner to independent manufacturer, debuted a new engine at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The company, recognized as a distinct manufacturer since the 1980s, showcased its latest development, the B8 flat-eight engine, in a prototype vehicle named "Erprober." This engine represents a significant departure from Ruf's previous reliance on horizontally opposed six-cylinder powerplants.

The "Erprober," a modified CT R3 mule, will demonstrate the new engine's capabilities by ascending the iconic Goodwood hill. While full technical specifications remain undisclosed, the 4.8-liter B8 engine is reported to produce over 1,000 horsepower and 737 lb-ft of torque. This powerful new engine signals Ruf's ambition to push performance boundaries beyond its existing carbon monocoque chassis vehicles.

Ruf's continued innovation, exemplified by this new engine and its unique chassis developments, positions the company as a significant player in the high-performance automotive sector. The B8 engine's impressive output suggests future Ruf models will offer substantially increased power, potentially challenging established supercars and reinforcing Ruf's identity as a manufacturer of bespoke, high-performance vehicles.
