Porsche Cayenne Electric Turbo Coupe packs 1,139 hp into an SUV

Porsche's new electric Cayenne Turbo Coupe makes 1,139 hp and hits 60 mph in 2.4 seconds, making it the most powerful production car the brand has ever built. Based on the SUV that rescued Porsche from near-collapse, this fastback dual-motor model shares its 113-kWh battery and 400 kW DC charging with the rest of the lineup, maintaining that rate until the pack reaches 50 percent.

Porsche borrowed a cooling trick from its Formula E racing program to push the rear motor harder without overheating. The electric Cayenne comes in three power tiers: 435 hp base, 657 hp S, and 1,139 hp Turbo. Buyers choose between the SUV or fastback coupe, which lowers drag to 0.23 but cuts cargo space behind the rear seats to 18.9 cubic feet.

For home charging, Porsche sells a wireless pad for around $8,000 that auto-aligns and charges at 11 kW, losing 10 percent efficiency versus wired connections. The interior pairs a radically curved 14.25-inch touchscreen with a curved gauge cluster, and the 22-inch Pirelli P Zero R tires give the Turbo a harsh ride on rough roads despite adaptive suspension.
