NCAR lawsuit challenges Trump shutdown

The University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration over plans to shut down the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR). The premier US atmospheric research center was labeled "woke" and "one of the largest sources of climate alarmism" by the Office of Management Budget, triggering the legal challenge.

NCAR in Boulder, Colorado, serves as home to leading atmospheric researchers and operates critical computing facilities and research aircraft. The center supports interdisciplinary research from weather forecasting to climate science and space weather impacts, supported by over 130 educational institutions through UCAR's management.

The lawsuit alleges the closure stems from retaliation against Colorado for mail-in voting and the prosecution of election official Tina Peters. UCAR claims the administration violated the Administrative Procedures Act by acting "arbitrarily and capriciously," noting the government continued renewing research contracts while planning the shutdown.
