Binance Lawsuit Targets WSJ Over Crypto Sanctions Coverage

Binance has filed a lawsuit against the Wall Street Journal, alleging the newspaper's reporting on the crypto exchange's compliance issues was misleading. The exchange claims the Journal failed to include its statements in articles about internal investigations and staff terminations. However, the Journal has since updated its articles to include Binance's responses, contradicting the exchange's claims.

A key point of contention involves a subheading that initially stated Binance dismantled a probe after Trump pardoned founder Changpeng Zhao. The article has since been amended to note Binance's denial of these allegations. Additionally, a follow-up Journal report confirmed a Justice Department investigation into Binance, incorporating many statements the exchange accused the newspaper of ignoring.

Critics argue the lawsuit is a distraction from ongoing government probes. Senator Richard Blumenthal has raised concerns about Binance's alleged influence on the Trump administration through lobbying and financial ties to World Liberty Financial. With approximately 85 percent of WLFI's stablecoins held in Binance accounts, Blumenthal is seeking records to ensure the exchange isn't using its influence to avoid accountability for sanctions violations.
