The basic iPad will upgrade from the A16 to an A18 chip, bringing Apple Intelligence support to the entry-level tablet for the first time.

New MacBook Pro models featuring M5 Pro and M5 Max chips are also on the horizon, replacing the current M4-based versions. While larger redesigns with OLED displays and touchscreens are reportedly in development, these M5 updates will stick to the familiar designs Apple has used since 2021. The timing suggests Apple is clearing inventory ahead of these launches, as shipping estimates for current models have been lengthening.

Apple's low-end hardware strategy appears to be evolving. The iPhone 17e will launch alongside the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, creating four models in the $600-800 range that could confuse consumers. Meanwhile, the company is reportedly planning a "low-cost MacBook" to fill a gap below its $999 baseline, following successful experiments selling older models through Walmart at discounted prices.
