Apple has released the 26.4 updates for all its major platforms today, including iOS, iPadOS, macOS Tahoe, watchOS, tvOS, visionOS, and HomePod. The most pressing reason to update is the extensive list of security fixes—Apple discloses these on its security website for iOS/iPadOS and macOS users. Beyond security patches, the updates bring several notable features.

Among the additions are charging limits for MacBooks, allowing users to prevent batteries from charging to full capacity. Safari on macOS Tahoe and iPadOS 26 now offers a "compact" tab view option, while Stolen Device Protection is enabled by default for enhanced security. Users also get new emoji from Unicode 17.0, AI-generated Apple Music playlists, and expanded Creator Studio features in the Freeform app.

Family Sharing groups gain flexibility with the ability to use different payment methods for purchases. One notable absence: end-to-end encryption for RCS messaging isn't included yet. Apple continues testing this feature, which would improve texting with Android users beyond the current unencrypted RCS standard. The update represents Apple's ongoing balance between security improvements and feature enhancements across its ecosystem.
