Wembley fight may need 1am kickoff for Fury-Joshua showdown

Promoter Turki Alalshikh says a heavyweight bout between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua would have to start at 1am UK time to secure Wembley Stadium. He plans talks with Mayor Sadiq Khan to obtain permission for a late‑night event that aligns with a U.S. TV window, translating to 8pm ET and 5pm PT.

Brent Council warned that extending Wembley’s 11pm curfew requires approval from the stadium’s safety advisory group, adding another hurdle. Alalshikh posted that officials have so far deemed a later start "not possible," but he hopes a positive response will follow.

Both fighters are slated for warm‑up bouts in July—Fury versus Mariusz Wach in Thailand on July 24 and Joshua versus Kristian Prenga in Saudi Arabia on July 25—making injuries the only immediate risk to the November‑timed showdown. A successful late‑night slot could boost global viewership and reinforce London’s claim as a premier boxing venue.

If authorities grant the time change, the fight could attract a massive trans‑Atlantic audience, potentially increasing revenue streams for promoters and broadcasters while cementing Wembley’s reputation for hosting record‑breaking heavyweight events.
