Sir Garfield "Garry" Sobers, former West Indies captain and celebrated all-rounder, has passed away at the age of 89. Widely regarded as one of the greatest cricketers of all time, Sobers left an indelible mark on the sport during his 20-year international career.

Born in Barbados, Sobers captained the West Indies from 1965 to 1972. He holds the record for the fourth-highest individual Test innings with an unbeaten 365, scored against Pakistan at just 23. He also famously hit six sixes in an over for Nottinghamshire in the County Championship. His career statistics include over 7,041 First-Class runs and 281 wickets.

The ICC's award for the leading men's player of the year is named the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy in his honor. Tributes poured in, with Windies Cricket stating, "A great innings has come to an end. In our hearts, now and forever, Sir Garfield Sobers."
