Club Cricketer Scott Gretton Hits Six Sixes in Successive Overs

Scott Gretton made local cricket history when the Rugeley Second XI batter smashed six sixes in successive overs during their South Staffordshire County League match. The 45-year-old mechanic's extraordinary assault came just weeks after returning from a six-month break, transforming a precarious 7-2 situation into match-winning carnage.

Gretton's 150 came off just 51 balls at a staggering strike rate of 294, featuring 19 sixes and six fours. After starting cautiously with six dot balls, he accelerated through the gears, reaching fifty in 23 balls before the real destruction began. Four consecutive sixes in the 10th over brought up his century in 36 balls, followed immediately by another maximum-filled over.

Only Garfield Sobers had previously achieved six sixes in a single over in first-class cricket back in 1968. While others have matched that feat, completing the trick in back-to-back overs appears unprecedented. Gretton admitted he remained oblivious to his historic achievement until teammates pointed it out later, having lost track amid wides, no-balls, and balls scattered around the car park.
