Sir Garfield Sobers, widely regarded as the greatest all-rounder in cricket history, has died at the age of 89. A national hero of Barbados and a legend of West Indies cricket, Sobers enjoyed a distinguished Test career spanning two decades. He was celebrated for his extraordinary versatility, excelling as a powerful left-handed batsman, an athletic fielder, and a bowler capable of three distinct styles: left-arm fast-medium, orthodox left-arm spin, and left-arm wrist-spin.

Born in Bridgetown, Barbados, in 1936, Sobers made his first-class debut at 16 and his Test debut at 17. He famously scored 365 not out against Pakistan in 1958, a Test record that stood for 36 years. He later captained the West Indies and achieved legendary status in England with Nottinghamshire, where he famously hit six sixes in an over in 1968.
