Real Madrid have secured Marc Cucurella from Chelsea in a deal worth up to £51.8m, with the Spanish full-back signing a six-year contract. The transfer fee breaks down as £47.5m plus £4.3m in achievable add-ons, marking a significant investment in their defensive options ahead of the new season.

Cucurella joined Chelsea from Brighton four years ago for £63m and made 163 appearances, contributing to their Conference League and Club World Cup victories. His departure follows public criticism of Chelsea's transfer policy and the decision to allow Enzo Maresca to leave. The 27-year-old was not among the club's 'untouchable' players, unlike Cole Palmer and Reece James.

Multiple clubs including Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Manchester City showed interest, but Cucurella's preference was always Real Madrid. He is currently representing Spain at the World Cup, where they face Cape Verde in their Group H opener.

The signing forms part of new manager Jose Mourinho's early transfer activity, which also includes Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries and Bernardo Silva. Chelsea will look to Jorrel Hato or further reinforcements to fill the left-back void, while maintaining their stance that Enzo Fernandez will not leave for less than £120m.
